A Team Wayne Olympic Torchbearer

Olympic TorchbearerWe are delighted to announce that Damien has been chosen as one of the Olympic Torchbearers for the London 2012 Olympics!

The Olympic Flame is one of the enduring symbols of the Olympic Games, representing peace, unity and friendship. As it is carried around the UK for the Olympic Torch Relay it will bring the spirit of the London 2012 Olympic Games to everyone.

Lit in Olympia, Greece, in a traditional ceremony, the Olympic Flame will be taken on a short relay in Greece before arriving in the UK at Land’s End on 18th May 2012.

Over the following 70 days, the Olympic Flame will be carried by 8,000 Olympic Torchbearers, generating much excitement as it makes its way to London and the Opening Ceremony of the eagerly awaited London 2012 Olympic Games. On its journey, The Flame will come within a one-hour journey for 95 per cent of the population of the UK – with an evening celebration at each stop.

Damien was nominated for the opportunity to carry the Olympic Flame for one of the legs of the Olympic Torch Relay (approx 300 metres) by Kay, following the amazing events that took place last year. He will represent both Team Wayne and Cricklade whilst continuing to raise more awareness for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research. This exposure will hopefully generate more sponsorship and donations for this fantastic cause!

If you would like to come along and cheer Damien on, then keep your eyes out for more details coming soon…
